PAPHOS - TRAFFIC CHAOS AND CITIZENS ANGER IN THE CENTRE OF PAPHOS THIS MORNING

Filenews 4 November 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

Hundreds of motorists who remained trapped on Paphos' main roads due to the works being carried out reached their limits this morning today. In the area from the roundabout near the Hospital to the junction at the beginning of the Paphos-Limassol motorway, the situation was, at a time when citizens were heading to their jobs and school, nightmarish since, as many of them complained to "F", it is not enough that the projects are already creating traffic jams and delays unprecedented for Paphos data, Today, in addition, in this area, a crew of the Municipality cut off one lane of traffic in order to work on the greenery on the dividing island of the avenue up to the traffic lights in the EAC.

Angry reactions were recorded from the morning to this event, with drivers complaining that for a journey of only a few kilometres, from the junction of Viofos to the junction of Konia, they remained immobilized for half an hour in their cars.

"It is inconceivable what happened in the morning," protesting citizens said. "With the redevelopment projects already creating queues of kilometres and delays huge for the Paphos residents, the decision of the competent authorities of the Municipality of Paphos to further burden the traffic in an area with five schools, the Hospital and the exit to the motorway, seems completely absurd.

A task of secondary importance such as cleaning an islet could easily be arranged at a time of limited traffic and not at 7.30 in the morning, when all citizens are on the road."

The traffic burden has been particularly intense lately on almost all roads of primary importance in the city of Pafos, as a result of the regulations that are necessarily applied by the nine major redevelopment projects underway in the mayoral area.
