The Department of Town Planning and Housing of the Ministry of Interior announces that recognizing the particular importance of the maintenance and rescue of listed buildings, in terms of preserving the collective memory, but also as an important tool for achieving sustainable development, it has proceeded to the revision of the Subsidy Scheme for Listed Buildings nationwide, on the basis of the New Decree KDP 378/2022 (for the Decree click here).
The new package of measures, which concern actions and incentives for the protection and promotion of the cultural and, in particular, the architectural heritage of the place, has recently been announced by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Nikos Nouris.
On the basis of the new package of measures, the following additions/ changes have been made:
- Coverage of 50% of the recognized cost of maintenance / restoration of a listed building, with an increase in the amount of the maximum grant provided, from €90,000 now to €100,000.
- Increase of the amount of the grant on the basis of new estimates of recognized maintenance / restoration costs of a listed building as follows:
- with an area of up to 300sqm (instead of up to 120sqm) – €1400/sqm (instead of €1200/sqm)
- with an area of 301-1000sqm – €1300/sqm (instead of €1100/sqm)
- with an area of > 1001sqm – €1000/sqm (instead of €700/sqm)
- Coverage of 2/3 of the cost of building support works, with an increase in the amount of maximum grant provided, from €5,000 now to €20,000.
In addition to the above increases and changes, a NEW incentive has been added for a Subsidy for the maintenance of a listed building shell, provided that a period of 10 years has elapsed since the previous grant of total maintenance / restoration. This amount also covers 2/3 of the cost of maintenance works, with a maximum grant of €20,000.
It is stated that the total budget of the Scheme per year is €4,500,000, and every year it is fully allocated to the applicants, due to the high demand.
It is noted that grant schemes for the maintenance and restoration of listed buildings are considered to be among the most generous in Europe.
