NEW EUROPEAN FUNDING FOR THE CYPRUS SAFER INTERNET CENTRE - CYberSafety

The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Development has secured a renewal of European funding for the period 1st October 2022 to 31st September 2024, in the framework of the Better Internet for Kids programme and the Cyprus Safer Internet Centre - CYberSafety will continue the important work being done for the safe and responsible use of the Internet in Cyprus, it is stated in a statement.

It is noted that the total budget of the Project amounts to €1,118.894,72 and is co-financed by 50%, by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

As mentioned, the Cyprus Safer Internet Center-CYberSafety (https://www.cybersafety.cy), has been operating since July 1, 2016 under the coordination of the Pedagogical Institute, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.

Focusing on the dynamic needs that arise, at local and European level, regarding internet and digital technologies, the Cyprus Safer Internet Centre - CYberSafety aims to strengthen efforts in Cyprus for creative and safe use of the Internet.

In particular, the Centre is supported by the Awareness and Education Centre (https://internetsafety.pi.ac.cy), which develops a wealth of educational/informational material, resources and tools, as well as organised campaigns to empower children, young people, parents and teachers with skills and knowledge on internet safety.

At the same time, the Center is supported by the Helpline 1480 (https://www.cybersafety.cy/helpline / https://www.cybersafety.cy/hotline), which provides information, advice and support to children, young people, parents and teachers, on issues related to the use of digital technologies and the Internet [(e.g., cyberbullying, long hours of internet engagement, grooming, child sexual abuse content and exploitation, racist material)]. Finally, all the actions of the Center aim to promote and implement the actions of the "National Strategy for a Better Internet for Children in Cyprus".

It is noted that the project includes as partners, together with the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Development, the Digital Security Authority (DSA), the University of Cyprus (UCY), the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the Pancyprian School of Parents and the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA). In addition, the work of the Centre will continue to be supported by the Advisory Board of the European Project "Cyprus Safer Internet Centre – CYberSafety" which consists of 37 important national bodies.
