The 76-year-old, who was swept away by a car while attempting to cross the avenue of Agios Georgios in Peyia, finally lost the battle for life. The unfortunate Paul Lowndes [a resident of Kamares] had been transferred to Nicosia General Hospital due to the criticality of his condition, but he passed away despite the efforts of doctors to surgically stabilize his condition.

According to the spokesman of the Paphos Police Department, Michalis Nikolaou, the new tragic incident on the streets took place just before 6.00pm on Wednesday. A rental car driven by a 58-year-old woman with her husband and their son as passengers heading from Agios Georgios to Peyia, at some point on the road, under conditions that are being investigated, dragged the 76-year-old who it appears was crossing the road from right to left according to the course of the vehicle.

A motorist transported the injured man to Paphos Hospital where a fractured pelvis and injuries were found in various parts of his body. The severity of the injuries necessitated his transfer to Nicosia General Hospital to undergo surgery, but the 76-year-old lost the battle for life shortly afterwards.

The examinations of the Paphos Traffic Police for the circumstances of the new fatality continue.
