GUARDING SCHOOLS TO AVOID VANDALISM

 Filenews 21 November 2022

In an effort to minimize the vandalism and destruction observed in a number of schools, mainly during the evening hours, the Ministry of Education again addressed the School Boards giving instructions on the collection of requests from schools for night guarding by placing guards.

The ministry's Safety and Health Office points out that the placement of a guard is the last measure of guarding, as long as any damage, or deficiencies have been corrected and the proposed security measures recommended by the Ministry of Education have been exhausted.

In the context of the necessary continuous checks of the passive security measures of the schools (fences, electrical security systems, lighting, etc.), the School Boards are also called upon to check, reassess their effectiveness and take the necessary actions to repair / replace the fences, gates, metal window racks and security locks on the doors of halls and areas where expensive equipment is stored, the operation of alarm systems and entrance intercoms and the operation of floodlights for school lighting during the evening hours.
