A new effort is in full swing to regulate the framework of tourist camps and to create luxury Glamping-type camps, without excluding developments before the closure of the Parliament in view of presidential elections.
The relevant bill and the regulations on Glamping, which were rejected by the Plenary of the Parliament in June, were changed, as the Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios had promised and were re-tabled with changes proposed by the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Trade and Tourism. Changes that make the intended regulation more environmentally friendly, to address the concerns expressed.
The relevant legislation was examined yesterday by the committee, which is expected to decide from week to week whether they will be put to the Plenary of the House on December 2, as yesterday the article discussion of the bill took place. Among other things, additional provisions have been introduced in the new legislation, so that Glamping-type luxury camps operate with a view to protecting the environment, flora and fauna of the area where they will operate and faithfully adhering to the management plans of the "Nature 2000" network areas and other protected areas. The new bill also introduces a provision concerning the mandatory securing of the EU Ecolabel by luxury Glamping camps.
A proposal for a law by Averoff Neophytou, submitted on behalf of DISY, was also before the committee yesterday, with the aim of adopting legislation regulating the establishment and operation of visitable farms. A bill on the subject had been in preparation for some time, but it did not come from the Government. It is not excluded that the bill will be based on the work already done by government departments. The relevant proposal was discussed yesterday and it is not excluded that it will be put to the vote at the last session of the Parliament on December 2. Both pieces of legislation, however, appeared from statements made yesterday by MPs to be accepted, although there are also objections, mainly from AKEL and Ecologists.
