The arrest of eight persons was carried out yesterday by members of the Police, during a crackdown on incidents that broke out at the Pournara KEPY, in Kokkinotrimithia.
The incidents broke out around 5.45pm. yesterday, when groups of people living in the shelter collided with each other, using iron crowbars, stones and wood. To suppress the incidents, police reinforcements were sent to the scene by the Nicosia Police Department.
After the intervention of the Police, order was restored, while the Police proceeded to arrest eight young persons, who appear to have participated in the incident, to facilitate the interrogations.
The incidents slightly injured workers at the Pournara KEPY. Also, ten residents of the accommodation centre were transferred to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment. After receiving first aid, they were discharged and returned to their place of residence.
The Kokkinotrimithia Police Station is investigating the case.
