Filenews 13 November 2022
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus informs the public through its announcement that recently there has been an increase in incidents of thefts from EAC's Electricity Distribution Substations.
According to EAC, the thefts concern the doors/entrances of the Distribution Substations that are located in thousands throughout Cyprus and mostly serve the electricity load needs of the neighbouring areas in which they are located. These substations are in the form of a small room and include live equipment, such as cables, transformers, switches, fuses, etc.
EAC also notes that entering the Distribution Substations is extremely dangerous for unauthorized and properly trained persons, as there is an immediate risk of electric shock.
As EAC informs us, "according to the Organization's procedure, at any entrance of a Substation there is a theft of a door, it is replaced with a new iron door. At the same time, the Organization in cooperation with the Police Department is studying and examining additional measures to prevent these thefts.
The EAC invites the public to be particularly careful and under no circumstances to enter the interior of the Distribution Substations. In case the absence of a Distribution Substation door is noticed, please contact EAC at 1800 or 99245122 phone (exclusively for thefts of Terminal doors).
