CYPRUS-BAHRAIN INTERSTATE AGREEMENT ON AIR TRANSPORT

 Filenews 9 November 2022

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yiannis Karousos, signed an interstate agreement with Bahrain in the field of air transport with his counterpart Mohammed Thamer Alkaabi, in Manama, Bahrain, as part of the Ministry's efforts to improve Cyprus' air connectivity.

According to a statement broadcast by the PIO, the agreement provides for further liberalisation of flights between the two countries by granting third, fourth and fifth freedoms between scheduled flights for passenger and cargo transport, without limiting airlines and frequencies.

"Our efforts to enhance and improve air connectivity are continuous at all levels, with initiatives we have taken at European level, such as the Declaration on Air Connectivity, the proposals we put forward to reduce the impact of the EU's Fit for 55 legislative package on aviation as well as incentives to airlines", said Mr Karousos.

He added that this is a very important agreement that seeks to improve air connectivity between the two countries, offering the opportunity to increase the number of travelers between Cyprus and Bahrain, both for leisure and business activities.

"This will help improve connectivity more broadly with Arab countries but also with Europe. With this Agreement, Bahraini airlines will be able to operate flights to all EU Member States with a stopover in Cyprus", the Minister noted.
