The section of Pafos 2017 "Peri Polis" and its engagement with the old and forgotten mansions of Pafos, was one of the programs of the European Capital of Culture that particularly touched the Paphites, to whom it reminded a glorious past of the city. Almost five years since then, state and local bodies are still waiting for efforts to revive these most characteristic examples of past Pafos eras.
Information from "F" states that lately around this aspect of the improvement interventions in the city, there is a strong movement and it is now almost taken for granted that the promotion of the old mansions of Pafos will be the next beautification project that will contribute to the even more complete appearance of Pafos in today's era.
The issue of the development and promotion of the old mansions has returned to the fore since the end of 2021 on the occasion of the intervention of the Mayor of Paphos to the state for the return of the Shelley House to the municipal authority for development and the response of the state that it will be used for housing a specific part of the state. At the same time, with this building, many others are now the objects of a structured effort in Paphos that aims at the redevelopment and revival of such historic, albeit private, buildings.
Pafos 2017 had given rise to this aspect of the changes, even opening for the first time in decades the famous Mansion of Loizos Philippou, in the district of Exo Vrisi.
Dr Panagiotis Touliatos, President of the Department of Architecture of Frederick University in Nicosia, then developed at a relevant event the special architecture of the mansions of Pafos, while the Professor of History at Neapolis University, Dr George Georgis, spoke about the life and work of Loizos Filippou.
