PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE VISIBLE FROM CYPRUS - 25 October

 Filenews 19 October 2022

A partial solar eclipse will be observed on October 25 and will also be visible from Cyprus.

An announcement from the Faka Tutorial Observatory states that in general, the eclipse will be visible in a region that includes almost all of Europe and Asia up to and including the Indies, as well as Northeast Africa.

As far as Cyprus is concerned, the partial eclipse has the following elements: The eclipse starts at: 12h 49m 23s, the middle of the eclipse and at the same time maximum will occur at 14h 03m 41s and the end of the eclipse will be at 15h 15m and 11s. The size of the partial eclipse for Cyprus will be 0.474.

As mentioned, an eclipse of a celestial body occurs when a third body is inserted between two other bodies, resulting in the two bodies not having visual contact. In this case, the "triplet" of this system consists of the Sun, the Earth and the Moon, and the alternations between the three cause solar and lunar eclipses in combination with the most shocking "coincidence" of our solar system. This "coincidence" is the apparent diameter of the Moon and the Sun as seen by an Earth observer is almost the same.

On this occasion, the Faka Institutes announce that they will put into operation their astronomical telescopes for observation of the phenomenon and invite all interested parties to come (78 Larnakos Ave., in Palouriotissa), between the hours of 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. which are the hours when the eclipse will be in progress.

The observation of the eclipse will be done by the method of projection, which is considered the safest method of observing the phenomenon. Special eclipse glasses will also be used for safe observation.

As stated, everyone is expressly forbidden to see the phenomenon with the naked eye, or with sunglasses. Those who wish to see the eclipse from their homes are urged to get the appropriate eclipse glasses.
