LET'S DO IT -' I CLEAN UP CYPRUS' from 24 to 30 OCTOBER

 Filenews 12 October 2022

The preparation for Let's Do It! Cyprus 2022, the largest environmental campaign and simultaneous voluntary action in Cyprus has already begun! The organizational part of the campaign is undertaken by the Environmental and Voluntary Network Together Cyprus with the support of the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the Department of Forests.

Let's Do It! Cyprus is part of the global let's do it! world campaign, which aims to rid the natural areas of the world of garbage and raise public awareness on issues related to the protection, conservation and sustainable management of the terrestrial and marine environment. This campaign is the largest citizens' movement in the world since it was born in 2008 in Estonia and today more than 160 countries participate.

The campaign has been taking place in Cyprus since 2012, counting a total of more than 210,000 entries and has rid Cyprus of tons of garbage. The action is the largest voluntary movement that takes place on our island. In 2019, almost 50,000 volunteers participated in one week, ranking Cyprus in 3rd place among 120 countries, which managed the voluntary participation of 5% of the country's population.

The aim of the campaign is to participate and inform as much of the population as possible, so that the message reaches the whole of Cyprus and sounds loud all over the world. For this reason, the activation and information of every citizen are important strategic successes, for a cleaner and more beautiful Cyprus.

The campaign's Head of Public Relations and Communications, Aspa Christodoulou, told "Phileleftheros" that "many people ask us why should I clean someone else's garbage?'' Our answer was, is and always remains the same. For beauty. The environment, the flora and fauna of Cyprus, for the beauty of seeing nature uncontaminated and for the beauty of the soul that each of us must carry within himself. Cyprus is one of the dirtiest EU member states in relation to pollution and this is something we must change if not for ourselves, for future generations. Like last year, this year our slogan is #stoxerisou because we believe it is indeed up to each of us, to add a little beauty or at least to remove some of the ugliness that surrounds us."

Information for anyone wishing to take part in the campaign on the Agency's website at www.togethercyprus.org.
