TRIAL OF BRITISH MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING HIS WIFE POSTPONED

 Filenews 22 September 2022

The trial of the 74-year-old man accused of the murder of his wife committed last December in the area of Tremithousa in Paphos was postponed until Thursday October.

The issue of the postponement was raised by the defence of the 74-year-old represented by lawyers Ritsa Pekri and Nikoleta Charalambidou who asked for further time to discuss with their 74-year-old client the modification of the charge from premeditated murder to homicide but also for other further clarifications as to the victim's illness.

The representative of the Prosecution, Lawyer of the Republic Andreas Hadjikyrou, who appeared together with Irene Zipiti, did not raise any objection to the issue of the postponement.

The Court therefore set the case for continuation of the judicial proceedings on October 12, 2022 at 09:30 in the morning.

It is noted that the 74-year-old on December 31, 2021 was referred to a direct trial before the Permanent Assize Court of Paphos after according to the Police, he allegedly confessed to committing the murder against his 75-year-old wife because, as he said, she was sick and could not see her suffer.

The British media are very interested in the case.
