The Minister of Defence, Charalambos Petrides, described the operation of the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (KSED) in Larnaca as an ornament of the Eastern Mediterranean on humanitarian and search and rescue issues. Mr. Petridis inspected today the construction works of the alternative Operations Centre of the KSED.
In his statements on the sidelines of the annual training seminar On Search and Rescue Seminar, which takes place today, Friday, September 9, at the KSED of Larnaca, Mr. Petrides said that "today I inspected with my own eyes the work of the Training Center as well as the alternative Operations Centre in the KSED".
He added that "there is currently an ongoing search-and-rescue operation on education issues between Cyprus and Italy, which is being conducted south of the island".
In response to a relevant question, the Minister of Defence said that "I believe that for our wider region, the KSED is the jewel of the Eastern Mediterranean in terms of humanitarian and search and rescue issues".
In remarking that the agreements signed from time to time between Cyprus and the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean, prove the very important role played by the KSED in the region, Charalambos Petrides said that "precisely, in addition to the multilateral exercises are also the issues of search and rescue, which are very important for us and for this reason we are being trained and will continue in this direction".
