The National Guard participated in the International Joint Exercise "EAGER LION – 2022", co-organized by the Jordanian Armed Forces and the Central Command of the United States (CENTCOM), from 3 to 16 September 2022.
According to the Ministry of Defence, in addition to the host countries and the Republic of Cyprus, the Armed Forces of Greece, Austria, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Iraq, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, Kenya, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Bahrain, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Sweden also participated with personnel and means.
As mentioned, the purpose of the exercise, which took place at the Special Operations Center "KING ABDULLAH II" in Jordan, was the realistic training in a multi-threat environment, to enhance the interoperability and overall capability of execution of multinational interdisciplinary operations of medium and large scale.
Simultaneously with the "EAGER LION - 2022", according to the Ministry of Defence, a corresponding small-scale bilateral exercise was co-organized by the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Jordan, on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, under the name "SCORPIOS - 2022", in which special operations teams of the Commando Command and corresponding teams of the Jordanian Armed Forces participated.
It is reported that its scenario included various types of shots of individual and group weapons, as well as snipers, training in the fight of residential places, training of personnel in first combat field assistants as well as the implementation of procedures for planning, execution and information support of operations.
In the announcement of the Ministry of Defence, it is stated that in the part of "SCORPIOS – 2022", was attended by the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, who congratulated the trainee departments, pointing out the importance of the cooperation of the two countries in the field of defense and security in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
It is added that these exercises "contribute significantly to the enhancement of the operational capabilities of the participating states and confirm the excellent relationship and the high level of military cooperation that has been developed between the IB and the Armed Forces of these states".
In addition, the exercises, according to the MoD, "reflect the wide network of collaborations in which the CT participates in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Defence, actively contributing to the common goal of ensuring security and stability in the wider region of Ann. Mediterranean'.
