GERMANY - PLACED ROSNEFT DEUTSCHLAND UNDER FEDERAL SUPERVISION

 Filenews 16 September 2022

Berlin today placed under surveillance the German subsidiary of Russian oil giant Rosneft, citing the need to ensure the continuation of operations at three oil refineries in the country.

In particular, as announced by the German Ministry of Economy on Friday, Rosneft Deutschland GmbH and RN Refining & Marketing GmbH will be placed under the control of Germany's Federal Network Service.

The organization will also control the companies' shares in three refineries: PCK Schwedt, MiRo and Bayernoil. The PCK refinery has a key role in refuelling Berlin, while until now it has been under the majority control of Rosneft Deutschland, testing Germany's determination to end imports of Russian oil by the end of the year.

Rosneft accounts for about 12% of Germany's oil refining capacity, according to the country's finance ministry, which added that the move will help secure continuous energy supply and will initially last for six months.

The imposition of German sanctions is taking place within the framework of implementing European decisions in order for Moscow to be punished for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
