FORGER ARRESTED FOUR YEARS AFTER EUROPOL'S SIGNAL

Filenews 19 September 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

A four-day detention order was issued by the Paphos District Court against a 41-year-old man in a case of forgery of passports and bank cards. The suspect was arrested on Sunday in Paphos, following information given to the Police by EUROPOL Germany in 2018 on the basis of which the 41-year-old had been arrested in Germany for a case of forgery of bank cards and that since then there has been evidence of his stay in a specific area in Cyprus.

In June 2018, on the basis of a court warrant, members of the Police conducted a search in a specific apartment, where they found ten passports, a large number of mobile phones, eight computers, a bank card printing device and other items.

The found items were detained for examination purposes, while the 41-year-old, who had since left Cyprus, was issued with an arrest warrant.

In the early hours of Sunday, after the 41-year-old arrived at Paphos airport, on a flight from a European country, he was arrested by members of the Police at the passport control area, with the court warrant pending against him. The 41-year-old was then brought before the Paphos District Court, which, at the request of the Police, issued a four-day detention order for him, for the purpose of police examinations.

The ICF Paphos continues the examinations.
