Transport Minister Giannis Karousos and Deputy Minister of Shipping Vasilis Demetriades welcomed on Tuesday the cruise liner “Rhapsody of the Seas” which docked at the Ayia Napa Marina carrying 3,000 passengers and crew.
The vessel that carries out cruises in the Mediterranean sailed to the Agia Napa marina from Haifa in the morning and will leave in the afternoon for Rhodes.
The Transport Minister said that “the government’s decision to establish the anchorage to attract cruise liners was correct because in this way Cyprus is added on the list of countries with cruise tourism since every year the arrivals of cruise vessels in our ports and marinas increase.”
Karousos also said that marinas in other cities such as Protaras marina and the marina in Latchi, Pafos will be able to attract an increasing number of cruise ships. He highlighted that the Port Authority has recently announced a 50 million euros development project to upgrade the Latchi marina.
Regarding Limassol, Karousos said that the government expects 250 arrivals of cruise liners in 2023.
