After the demolition of all fuel storage tanks in Larnaca, the end of the liquefied petroleum gas tanks era is also approaching.
According to the timelines set, as of this winter, the import and distribution of gas in the market will be done through the modern facilities of the VLPG Ltd consortium at Vasilikos.
Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras said that according to information from the petrol companies if everything goes well at the Vasilikos Energy Center, the last ship transporting liquid gas to Larnaca will sail next month.
In the first stage, both facilities at Vasilikos and in Larnaca will work simultaneously until the facilities at Vasilikos become able to operate normally. Then the demolition of the tanks in Larnaca will begin.
The mayor said that there are significant development prospects in the area where the gas tanks are in Larnaca and added that foreign investors have already shown interest. The Municipality is currently examining the first two proposals by Israeli companies, he noted.
