Recently, the Police have received several reports from citizens about online fraud via email – Email and it seems that this type of fraud is on the rise.
Specifically, fraudsters send misleading messages (e-mails) with the subject "Your account has been paid twice x2" and falsely inform that the recipient's account has been accidentally paid 2 times, offering a link to refund the amount of money.
Upon opening this link, a fake website appears (with logos of Cypriot telephony / internet providers) that has as its purpose the placement and interception of the passwords of the e-mail account of the recipient.
Subsequently, another fake website appears for placing the bank card details (debit / credit) supposedly for a refund of the amount of money, when in fact it is intended to intercept these data.
• The public is urged to be especially careful in such messages they receive.
• Confirm that the sender of the message is authentic.
• Under no circumstances should he place the passwords of his e-mail and bank card on suspicious websites.
• In case of response and placement of any information, immediately change the password and inform the banking institution for cancellation of the card.
