Transport was the category with the largest price increases, according to the statistics published yesterday by ELSTAT.
As announced by ELSTAT, the comparison of the General CPI of July 2022 with the corresponding Index of July 2021, resulted in an increase of 11,6%.
Compared to June, a de-escalation was observed, as the General CPI showed a decrease of 1.8% against a decrease of 1.4%.
According to el.stat., compared to July 2021, an increase of 20.6% was observed in the group "Transport", due to an increase, mainly, in prices in:
new cars, used cars, car parts and accessories, fuel and lubricants, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, passenger transport by taxi, passenger tickets by plane, passenger transport tickets by ship.
Main price changes July 2022 - July 2021
In particular, the main price changes in the category "Transport" were as follows:
-Passenger transport by plane: +62,3%,
-Passenger transport by ship: +25,4%,
-Passenger transport by taxi: +32,9%,
-Fuels and lubricants: +33,0%,
-New cars: +12,4%,
-Used cars: +15.9%.
Respectively, in June, inflation "hit red" in transport, as compared to June 2021, passenger tickets by plane were increased by 48.5% and ships by 20.4%, taxi fares by 32.9%, fuel and lubricants by 45.6%, new cars by 12.2% and used ones by 15.9%.
Increase in passenger traffic compared to last year
However, despite the significant increases in air and ferry tickets, the mood for travel has "overcome" these rises.
It is indicative that, according to HCAA data and in all Greek airports, the traffic of the first half of 2022 approached 90.6% of 2019, with the total number of passengers handled amounting to 22,407,879.
In fact, in June, passenger arrivals from abroad were marginally higher compared to June 2019 (3,480,812, an increase of 0,1%).
Compared to last year, the increase in passenger traffic amounted to 269.1% in the first half of the year and in June to 167.6%.
Similarly, in coastal shipping, the traffic peaks. On the last weekend of July, about 106,000 passengers departed from the port of Piraeus for Crete, the Saronic Gulf, the Cyclades, the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, when in the corresponding period last year 91,000 had departed, recording an increase of 16.48%.
Since the beginning of July, more than 765,000 passengers departed from the port of Piraeus alone, while 173,000 departed from Rafina.
According to data from the Coast Guard, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, there was an increase of 13% in the port of Piraeus and 11.6% in the port of Rafina.
