NEW ONLINE SCAM

 Filenews 8 August 2022

The Police have recently received several complaints about suspicious misleading e-mails, sent en masse to the public and falsely pretending to be the Cyprus Police, sent by the e-mail cypruspolice.gov.cy@gmail.com, calling unsuspecting citizens that they are involved and should be charged with various criminal offenses via the Internet (sexual assaults, rapes, child pornography, etc.).

According to a police announcement, the misleading messages are sent from fake e-mail addresses and bear the logos of the Cyprus Police as well as the Hellenic Police.

The Police inform the public that the messages are forged and have nothing to do with the Cyprus Police. The public is called to be particularly careful and not to respond in case of receiving such a message.

For the purpose of confirming any pending issues with the Police, the public is encouraged to communicate with the well-known communication channels available to the Police.
