A large march is held by the "Isaac -Solomos Remembrance Initiative" on Saturday, August 6, on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the murders by the Turks of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos.
In a post to the NGOs, the "Initiative of Remembrance of Isaac - Solomos" states that "it declares itself present again this year, 26 years since the murders of the heroes Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos. With the wound of the Turkish occupation remaining open, it invites the people of Cyprus to an event of remembrance, resistance and dignity, at the Deryneia barricade at eight o'clock on the evening of Saturday, August 6, a day that reminds everyone of Akanthou, Karavas, Lapithos and other villages that were occupied by the Turkish army in 1974.
It is added that "the event will be preceded by the great march that will start from all the cities of free Cyprus and will end at the Deryneia barricade on Saturday afternoon. The purpose of the motorcyclists is to keep the memory of the sacrifice of Tassos and Solomos alive, to repeat the demand for the extradition and arrest of their wanted killers and to send everywhere the message of the liberation of Cyprus".
According to the post in the NGOs "this year, as it marks 100 years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the journey will start symbolically from the recently revealed "Refugee Monument of Asia Minor Hellenism", on Friday, August 5. Motorcyclists do not forget the enslaved homelands, Ionia, Smyrna and every corner of Hellenism".
It is noted that "the Asia Minor Catastrophe, 52 years before the Turkish invasion, is a black day for the Hellenism universes and the "Isaac-Solomos Remembrance Initiative" will not forget it. The refugees of Asia Minor are the refugees of Kyrenia, the dead of 1922 are the dead of 1974, the dead of 1996. Mikrasia, Kyrenia and Famagusta invite us again this year to the Deryneia barricade".
Motorcyclists will gather on Saturday, August 6th from Paphos at 5 p.m. at the parking lot of the Pafiakos Stadium.
From Nicosia the meeting will be at 6 pm in the West Stand of the GSP and from Limassol also at 6 pm from the parking lot of the Industrial Area of Agios Athanasios.
In Larnaca, motorcyclists will gather at 6.30 in the afternoon at the Rizoelia roundabout (near the Avdellero exit) and from Famagusta at the Ayia Napa roundabout at seven in the evening.
It is noted that on Sunday, August 7, the annual memorial service of the hero-martyrs Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos will be held at the Holy Church of Agios Demetriou in Paralimni, head of the Metropolitan of Constantia - Famagusta Vasileios.
