The Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) proceeds to the laying of amphorae in the marine protected area of Larnaca and specifically in the natural reef next to the shipwreck LEF1, in Voroklini with the aim of enriching marine life.

In a written announcement of ETAP, it is stated that "the laying will take place on Tuesday, August 30, in the presence of the President of the Society Dinos Lefkaritis, the President of the Community Council of Voroklini Neophytos Fakontis and a representative of the Department of Marine Research Fisheries (TATHE). A total of 60 amphorae will be placed and an additional number of vessels will be placed at a later stage."

It is added that "the amphorae that will be laid are earthen and do not contain glazes, paint, or any toxic materials that may adversely affect marine life."

It is noted that "the reef next to the shipwreck LEF1, is located about one kilometre from the coast and at a depth of 13 metres, and hosts various species of marine life which is expected to be further enriched with the addition of amphorae. This is an ecological action that takes place under the guidance of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research and the support of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism".

The aim of this action is "to attract and increase the fish population as well as to maximize diving interest. The new Larnaka artificial reef was created on the initiative of the Larnaca Etap and the TDF and with the support of local authorities, institutions and businesses of Larnaca in December 2019".

It is recalled that "the 63-metre ship "Elpida" and the 15-metre boat "LEF1" were laid on the artificial reef, which was donated by the company Lefkaritis Bros Ltd.
