Following the great success and positive impressions left by the initiative of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the organization of Christmas Villages in 5 mountainous communities in the festive season 2021 - 2022, it was decided to announce a Grant Plan for Community Councils and Mountainous / Border / Remote Municipalities that would like to undertake the organization of Christmas Villages for the upcoming festive season and specifically from November 26, 2022 until 15 January 2023.
After the completion of the submission of applications and the evaluation that followed on the basis of predetermined and publicized criteria, the Deputy Ministry is pleased to announce that, for this year, Christmas Villages will operate in all districts of Cyprus. Specifically, there will be Villages in Agros, Deryneia, Kalavasos, Kalopanayiotis, Kyperounta, Fikardou and Polis Chrysochous.
The Deputy Ministry reminds that the Christmas Villages are a special and different initiative, included in the efforts of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to upgrade the tourist product through specific quality labels (Labels), in the context of which the selected destinations will be decorated and illuminated festively, in the spirit and romance of the days, under the sound of Christmas melodies.
The whole initiative will include wooden houses with local products and handicrafts for sale, experiential workshops of handicrafts and wine gastronomy, activities in nature (such as walking on nature trails and cycling), guided tours of the villages and other surprises. Restaurants / accommodations in the wider area have also been included in the whole planning, which will offer a festive menu and / or a Cypriot breakfast, thus providing the opportunity to many neighbouring communities to benefit from the event.
The ultimate goal of the Deputy Ministry is for the Christmas Villages to become an institution, to differentiate themselves from those of the cities of Cyprus and abroad, and every year to increase and enrich them to become a pole of attraction for visitors.
