WHATSAPP MESSAGE RE BULLETS FOR SALE

 Filenews 18 July 2022

A 30-year-old and a 27-year-old were detained for a five-day detention for an ongoing case of illegal possession of explosives to facilitate interrogations.

According to Paphos ADE Spokesperson and Head of the Paphos ICF, Michalis Nikolaou, following information that in a residence of a specific person there may be military-type bullets, a judicial residence search warrant was issued. The complaint was made by a dealer who reported to the Police that he received a message on WhatsApp from a specific number and was told that they had bullets for sale. From further examinations by the Police, the owner of the message was identified and it is a 30-year-old.

Members of the Police shortly after 09:00 on Friday conducted a search of the residence of the 30-year-old, as part of which they located an army 'store' containing a total of two hundred full cartridges, military-type, 7.62 mm calibre.

The 30-year-old was arrested for the offences of illegal possession of explosives and further examinations found that he has been illegally residing in the Republic since last March and is a third-country national. He was subsequently detained. Interrogated, the 30-year-old claimed that he is a garbage collector and that the military cartridges were found thrown into the garbage. According to Mr. Nikolaou during his interrogation, the 30-year-old involved another compatriot, aged 27, who was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody as well. The case is being investigated by the ICF Paphos.
