The Licensing Authority has decided that it will examine applications for the placement of advertisements in urban taxis, after studying the relevant legislation on taxis, as well as the legal regime for placing advertisements on buses and finding the positive opinion of all bodies and interested parties and organizations.
According to its announcement, the application should be submitted exclusively by the owner of the road use permit (AOX) and can be made by written letter to the Authority. The applicant, along with his application, must provide relevant supporting material, such as a depiction of the content of the advertisement.
In addition, the Authority notes that the installation of advertising signs will be allowed only on the two front doors of the vehicle, provided that it is limited within the metal frame, so that in any case the margin around the door adjacent to the glass remains intact up to 10 cm.
The Licensing Authority may grant a licence to place advertising in all four doors of the vehicle, an approval which shall be left to the discretion of the Council.
Advertising may be presented in any colouring, provided that it does not substantially alter the remaining colour of the vehicle. The content of the advertisement should be such that it will not offend the morality of the average citizen nor will it contain illegal purposes or advertisements that are prohibited by Cypriot law, the Authority says.
It is noted that the validity of the approval of the advertisement will last for as long as the validity of the taxi road use license lasts, unless the applicant who received the approval of the relevant license requests the review of a new application for another advertisement.
The authorisation to place an advertisement must be indicated on the vehicle's road use permit. In addition, a solemn declaration will be made by the person responsible for placing the advertisement for the dimensions and a photo will be sent after the implementation of the decision to check and update the file.
Finally, the Licensing Authority notes that it will have the discretion to allow, amend or even reject an application, if deemed appropriate in the circumstances.
