In the networks of the Tax Department were caught about 2,000 taxpayers, who owed taxes of tens of millions of euros. Specifically, in the context of the audits carried out by the Office of Large Taxpayers between 2020-2021, for monitoring and compliance of the most important taxpayers, it identified a total of 1,917 large taxpayers, which were subject to taxes amounting to € 167.7 million.
The average tax imposed on each taxpayer was around €87,000. Last year, 979 large taxpayers were identified, from whom the state collected taxes of €86.2 million, while in 2020 another 938 taxpayers were caught in the tongs of the tax, who fall into the same category, imposing taxes of € 81.5 million.
In detail, in 2021, 455 natural and legal persons were certified as direct tax payers, amounting to €83.5 million. Another 524 large taxpayers who had VAT debts were certified with an amount of €2.6 million. Moreover, in 2020, 397 taxpayers with direct tax debts had been identified, to whom an amount of €78.3 million was certified. Another 538 taxpayers who had not paid VAT were certified with taxes of €3.2 million.
Tax fraud cases
A total of 175 cases of tax fraud were put under their microscope by the officers of the Tax Department. According to data from "F", last year the competent department investigated 73 cases of tax fraud and certified an amount of €9 million. In 2020, the Tax Department put under the microscope another 52 cases of tax fraud, while in 2020 they examined 50 such cases. The amounts of taxes established were €1.7 million. and €36.5 million. Specifically, for the year 2020, in cooperation with the district offices, 20 audits were carried out, resulting in a tax amount of €1.8 million and a €55,255 compromise fine. For the year 2020, 13 audits were carried out, resulting in a tax amount of €1.9 million. and a €74,840 compromise fine.
And other checks
Last year, the Tax Department carried out 556 VAT audits, from which an amount of €9.4 million will be collected, while in 2020 772 such audits were carried out, during which an amount of €10 million was confirmed. Also, 334 VAT refund cases were brought before the Department, in which an amount of €2.3 million was certified. In 2020, 309 tax refund cases were examined, through which an amount of €3 million was certified. In 2021, 3,863 capital statements amounting to €2.6 million were also examined, compared to 3,868 the previous year, which confirmed an amount of €3.4 million.
Officers of the Tax Department last year had also examined 74,365 financial accounts, resulting in the certification of taxes of €16.9 million. In 2020, 28,566 financial accounts were examined, resulting in a tax assessment of €18.3 million.
