RED ALERT FOR FIRES

 Filenews 22 July 2022

On the weekend of July 23 – 24, 2022, the risk of explosion and expansion of forest fires will be at a "red alert" level, the Department of Forests said in a statement.

It is emphasized that it is forbidden to light a fire without a license and that it is an offense which according to the Forest Law of 2012, is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years or with a fine of up to €50,000 or both penalties together and in accordance with the Prevention of Fires in the Countryside Law of 1988 up to 5 years or with a fine of up to €20,000 or both penalties together.

It is clarified that the lighting of a fire, for the preparation of food, is allowed only in the barbecues of the picnic areas.

There is also a very strong appeal to the public to be particularly careful during their excursions, completely avoiding actions and activities that may cause a fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that produce heat, sparks or flame, such as smyrillium, welding and grinding.

If someone notices smoke or fire, he is asked to call immediately 1407 (Department of Forests) or 112 (Fire Department), the announcement concludes.
