PAPHOS - GS KORIVOS NEEDS MODERNISATION SO IT CAN BE USED

Filenews 4 July 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

G.S. Korivos, the old stadium of the city, is now entering the daily agenda of bodies and bodies of Pafos with the aim of upgrading and modernizing it in a way that becomes a hive of sports activity of the local community and not a "carcass" of past eras as it is in recent years.

Sports and social players of the city and province have recently been promoting the idea of transforming the historically charged space into a hive of activities that will be open to the local community, instead of only to the school to which it belongs spatially. These bodies emphasize that Paphos is one of the provinces that lack sports infrastructure, since there is only one indoor sports hall with elementary modern infrastructure.  There are no tennis courts, while there is a football stadium that is practically not accessible to people who would like to play sports.

The stadium in the city centre, which for decades was synonymous with football in Paphos and with Evagoras and APOP, with the right planning, can be the Municipal Sports Centre of Paphos, these factors emphasize. Tennis courts, basketball courts, a football field that can be converted into small football fields, a perimeter track and field can be created for classic sports and a small cafeteria for recreation, they argue.

"All this can be made possible without the Municipality and the state wasting a lot of money", they point out, "while in addition the G.S. Korivos has the advantage of being located in the city centre, so it can be used not only by schools as until now, but also by many people, as a result of which the centre of Paphos regains its former glory and is full of life".
