PAPHOS BALCONY COLLAPSE - THREE SERIOUSLY INJURED

Three young workers from Nepal and now in Paphos, are being treated in a very serious condition at Paphos Hospital, after being injured on Thursday night when the balcony collapsed in the apartment building they live in the city centre.

The apartment building, of very old construction, is located on Nicou Antoniadi Street, very close to the central square of Kennedy. Due to the heat, apparently, the three youngsters lay down to sleep at night on the balcony of their apartment, which is located on the third floor of the apartment building.

At some point during the night the balcony collapsed under the weight of three people. The three young workers fell to the ground and were very seriously injured. The rubble from the building fell on a parked car, resulting in extensive damage.

The three were transferred and are being treated at Paphos Hospital and their condition is described as very serious.

According to the Fire Brigade, at 02:20AM they received a call from the Police Message Control Center regarding a balcony collapse from an apartment building.

Members of the Police and the Fire Brigade responded,  with staff and a Rescue Vehicle. This balcony also swept away the balconies of the two floors below, while a vehicle parked under the building was also engulfed.

The rescue team made an extensive search of the rubble and the engulfed vehicle, without finding any other person.
