The Police recommends particular attention to the public, regarding two forms of e-mails, which falsely in one case are presented as having been sent by the Police and more specifically by the Chief of Police, while in the second case they are falsely presented as having been sent by a former Chief of Police.
Specifically, in messages that have been sent in recent days from the suspicious e-mail address "autoreplay4411@gmail.com", the Chief of Police Mr. Stylianos Papatheodorou is mentioned as the sender. Messages up to this stage are sent written in English. Through the messages, the perpetrators call the recipients to reply to the sender, to confirm the receipt of the message.
False messages state:
«Hi there, Kindly acknowledge once you receive. Thanks. BR
Stylianos Papatheodorou Chief of Police»
It is believed that the purpose of sending the malicious messages is to verify whether the addresses to which the messages are sent are active.
In second form malicious emails, it is falsely presented that these have been sent by a Chief of Police, mentioning the name of a person who in the past served as Chief of Police. The recipient is asked to send to the suspicious e-mail address "M.papageorgiou.cyprus@hotmail.com", his reply to the message.
The Police informs the public that, in no case, such messages are sent by the Police to citizens or organizations. These two forms of messaging are an attempt to deceive citizens. It is recommended that in case of receipt of such messages, citizens inform the Police and avoid any communication or transaction through these malicious messages and the suspicious addresses mentioned in them.
