The announcement follows in full
The Addendum to the Second Compliance Report of Cyprus to GRECO, adopted on 25 March 2022 and published as a public document on Friday 8 July 2022, assesses the measures taken by the Cypriot authorities to implement the recommendations issued in the Report of the Fourth Evaluation Round of Cyprus, which deals with the "Prevention of corruption with regard to members of Parliament, of the judiciary and prosecutors'.
In the Evaluation Report, GRECO addressed sixteen recommendations to Cyprus. Of these, GRECO concludes that Cyprus has satisfactorily implemented or addressed nine in a satisfactory manner, while of the seven remaining outstanding recommendations, six recommendations have been partially implemented and one recommendation has not been implemented.
In relation to the Prosecutor's Authorities, a field concerning the Legal Service of the Republic, the recommendation of GRECO concerning the autonomy of prosecutors remains unchanged, which will be fully satisfied with the promotion and adoption of a relevant bill concerning the independence / autonomy of the Legal Service, which has been completed and is before the Ministry of Finance.
Specifically, in the Conclusions of the Report, GRECO states that, as far as the prosecution authorities are concerned, only one recommendation is pending, noting that the work on the bill related to the Legal Service of the Republic has not progressed further. GRECO therefore urges the authorities to speed up the process with a view to enhancing the independence/autonomy of prosecutorial functions.
The GRECO Report, in Greek and English, is posted on the website of the Legal Service and on the website of the Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO).
