We are going through a new outbreak of the pandemic, mainly due to the hypertransmission strains, stressed the member of the Advisory Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Health for the coronavirus, Zoe Dorothea Pana.
Speaking on state radio, she said that a further increase in the positivity rate of infections is expected in the near future. She pointed out that despite the increase in hospitalizations, the health system seems not to be under much pressure and the percentage of deaths will not be large compared to previous outbreaks of the pandemic.
Ms. Pana again called on people over the age of 60 and those belonging to vulnerable groups of the population to be vaccinated with the fourth dose.
She also said that Cyprus expects from autumn onwards the new vaccines, which will cover both Omicron variants four and five.
