"Once again, we received complaints about a series of unacceptable incidents against animals and birds at festivals in the area of Kokkinochoria," the Ecologists' Movement – Citizens' Cooperation said in a statement.
"In particular, street vendors appear to be illegally putting parrots, canaries, turtles, and rabbits as a prize in the 'kazadi' game of chance," he added.
"As the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, we condemn the incidents and express our strong dissatisfaction and anger, as by law it is illegal to use birds and animals as a prize in the "kazanti", since 2015 with a proposal for a law submitted by our former MP Mr. George Perdikis and voted by the House of Representatives.
We have taken the necessary actions and we expect the competent bodies and the Police to implement the legislation as soon as possible and proceed with the confiscation of animals and birds.
A society that wants to be called civilized must respect every form of life, especially animals."
