CHAIN DISRUPTIONS - CONSUMERS WILL TO MAKE CHANGES

 Filenews 3 July 2022

Consumers appear willing to make changes to respond to supply chain disruptions, according to the global survey by the audit firm PwC, conducted in the spring of 2022. The survey records the views of 9,069 consumers, in 25 countries.

A large number of consumers facing supply chain problems - such as a lack of availability of products or delays in the expected delivery time - say they do not hesitate to make changes in order to manage the situation. Specifically, more than a third of the respondents (37%) said they would be willing to turn to other retailers to meet their needs or - if they are used to visiting the stores - that they would turn to the internet. It is noteworthy that most of the consumers who participated in the survey have experienced an increase in inflation. More than 75% of respondents expect to maintain or increase current spending levels in most categories over the next six months.

In particular, 47% expect to spend more on food. However, the fact that more than a quarter of consumers plan to reduce their spending on various categories, such as luxury/premium goods (37% of respondents), outings for food (34%), arts, culture and sports (30%) and fashion (25%), may be an indication of what's next. The most important factors that, according to the research, enhance trust in a brand are related to data security and customer experience. The protection of personal data is the most influential factor in terms of the trust shown in a brand, as it is reported by 58% of respondents. This percentage has recorded an increase of 11 points in the last six months.
