The extension of the port of Latchi, to the Old Warehouses of the Cyprus Ports Authority, is one of the most important infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the Chrysochous apartment, stressed during today's presentation ceremony of the plans the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos and the President of the Cyprus Ports Authority Antonis Stylianou.
The major project is being launched by the Ports Authority at an expense of €45 million and is expected to upgrade Polis Chrysochous and the tourist product of the region
Speaking during the ceremony, Yiannis Karousos stressed that the intention of the Ministry is that where such infrastructure is created, efforts should be made to operate a Customs Office and other infrastructure for attracting and cruise ships. Mr. Karousos also announced that the expansion includes another 350 berths, noting that this is a major upgrade and a major project important for both the local community and tourism.
The president of the Cyprus Ports Authority, Antonis Stylianou, described the day as historic for the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous and the entire Chrysochous area, since it is the largest investment and development of the last decades in the history of the Ports Authority.
"This investment," he said, "will triple the existing port basin of the port of Latchi and make it the first green port in Cyprus. With development that will be completely sustainable and will respect the ecology and the coastal history of the place and above all will be based on renewable energy sources for water, waste management and so on."
In his address, the Director of the Limassol Port Panagiotis Agathokleous assured that the effort for the development of the port of Latchi will continue. He characterized the project of significant strategic economic and social importance for the development of the area with multiple benefits for the local community and our country in general.
The presentation was attended, among others, by the president of DISY Averoff Neophytou, the president of PASYXE Paphos Thanos Michaelides, community leaders of the region and various institutions.
The Karousos tour of Paphos will continue in the afternoon with a visit to the recently renovated Archaeological Museum of Pafos, the site where the project of the Unification of Archaeological Sites in Kato Paphos is under execution, as well as the construction site of Ellados Avenue in the city centre.
Karousos' contacts in Paphos will conclude with a meeting with members of the Executive Secretariat of the Coordinating Committee of Parties and Organizations (SEKO) of Paphos, at the Paphos Municipal Hall. The SEKO meeting will deal, among other things, with the issue of the new Airport-Tourist Area road and the issue of breakwaters in the sea area of Paphos.
