ZETA EMILIANIDOU, MINISTER OF LABOUR & SOCIAL INSURANCE HAS PASSED AWAY

The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Zeta Emilianidou, left her last breath last night at the "Hygeia" Medical Center in Athens, where she was hospitalized after a ruptured brain aneurysm.

Mrs. Emilianidou had suffered on the evening of May 15th a cerebral artery aneurysm and underwent surgery in Athens. Initially, she was admitted to a private hospital in Nicosia and then, due to the severity of her condition, she was transferred to the "Hygeia" Medical Center in Athens, where she underwent surgery. Immediately afterwards and until yesterday she was in sedation.

Upon hearing of her death, the Presidency of the Republic issued a statement stating the following: "It is with deep sadness that the Presidency of the Republic announces that the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Zeta Emilianidou, left her last breath at 8.30pm on June 6, 2022, at the age of 68, at the "Hygeia" Medical Center, in Athens, where she was hospitalized after a ruptured brain aneurysm. The President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, and the Government express their deepest condolences to her family". The President Anastasiades in a post on Twitter said that "I am deeply saddened. The loss of my beloved Zeta shocks me. Sincere condolences to her son Achilles and her children Marios and Doros. Zeta will be missed by all of us. But mainly from our country that loses an honest, intelligent and effective minister." Immediately after the news of the death of the Minister of Labour, the entire political world proceeded to post on social media to say the last goodbye.

Zeta Emilianidou was born on September 2, 1954 in Nicosia. She studied Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and then obtained a marketing diploma from the Cyprus Institute of Marketing. In 1979 she was appointed to the Department of Customs of the Republic of Cyprus, where she served from many positions. She also served as director-general of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. On April 4, 2013, she was appointed Minister of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance in the first government of Nicos Anastasiades, a position she held until yesterday.
