THE EU AIRLINES BLACKLIST

 Filenews 2 June 2022

The Commission yesterday updated the current EU safety list, which is the list of airlines subject to an operating ban or operating restrictions within the European Union because they do not meet international safety standards.

Following yesterday's update, 'I Fly', another airline certified in Russia, was added to the EU's flight safety list. Yesterday's decision by the EU's Aviation Safety Committee comes after the Decision in April to list 20 Russian-certified airlines that had knowingly performed flights without valid airworthiness certificates, thus violating international aviation safety standards. To date, this list includes 22 Russian-certified airlines.

Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean said: "Following the decision taken in April to include 20 Russian airlines using foreign-owned aircraft without a valid certificate of airworthiness, another airline was added to the EU flight safety list. The Commission is closely monitoring all Russian airlines that have foreign-owned aircraft without a valid airworthiness certificate in their fleet, which have been illegally added by Russia to its aircraft register. As I already said in April, I would like to point out that this decision is not a sanction against Russia; it has been taken solely for technical and security reasons."

Taking into account yesterday's update, a total of 118 airlines are banned from operating in EU airspace. More relevant information is available here.
