A week of information and policing with roadside inspections of trucks and buses, which will last until Sunday, June 19, is being held by the Police, as part of the actions to reduce road collisions and increase safety on the road network.
The week of actions will be conducted at a Pan-European level, by the member countries of the European Roadpol Traffic Police Network, with the Cyprus Police actively participating in the whole effort, as a member of the European Police Network.
At the heart of Roadpol's specially dedicated weekly action will be to raise awareness of the risks caused by non-compliance with existing legislation, as well as to intensify traffic control of offences committed by truck and bus drivers.
The technical and mechanical suitability of lorries and buses, the validity of drivers' and vehicles' documents, speed limitation devices and tachographs, and the observance of driving and working hours by professional drivers, will be reference points for traffic controls, as will infringements which are proven to be the main factors causing serious and fatal road collisions; such as speed limit violations and the use of a mobile phone while driving.
Particular emphasis will be given to policing in black and dangerous parts of the road network, where the chances of causing road collisions are particularly high.
