Filenews 30 June 2022
The decision-makers of London's largest airport have asked airlines to amend today's morning flight schedule from Heathrow, as the number of passengers would exceed their service capabilities.
The last-minute request led to the sudden cancellation or delay in making 30 flights, resulting in thousands of passengers suffering great inconvenience, for another day.
Most of these passengers are, however, expected to fly sometime within the day.
A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport apologized and said the decision was made for the safety of passengers.
Social media posts from indignant travellers talk about announcing cancellations as they arrived at the airport or even check-in, with many talking about "chaos".
Among the cancelled flights were British Airways' morning flights to Athens and Thessaloniki.
Flight cancellations, long delays and long queues at check-in and boarding are now almost a daily occurrence at the largest British airports, as well as at many European airports. In Britain the problem is attributed to the lack of sufficient staff at both airports and airlines.
