KATO PAPHOS - NEW CARPARK OPENED UP FOR PARKING

Cyprus Mail 21 June 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

Deep traffic breath for businesses and migrants on the coastal front of Pafos, due to the operation after many months of the large parking space of the Archaeological Park which was closed due to the works being done for the redevelopment of the area and for the movement of public transport infrastructure.

The re-use of the large parking lot came at the right time, highlight businessmen of the area, since the mass start of the tourist season has "sunk" Paphos to visitors during this period. As a result of the lack of adequate parking spaces until recently, there were queues of cars hundreds of metres on a daily basis, tourist buses that were forced to disembark their passengers in the middle of the road, a delay in leaving the coastal front reminiscent of big cities with intense traffic problems and therefore intense irritation everywhere.

This situation has changed, however, since the festive three days of the Flood, last week, since the new landscaped parking space was given for use to visitors and professionals of the area, even if the works within it are not fully completed. This fact spread satisfaction to the professionals of the area who for months protested strongly asking the officials to take care of the opening of the site, claiming that even unfinished the project could be used because of the huge number of visitors.

"By leaving the area closed, they overloaded the whole coastal front, so the tourist buses were forced to disembark people on the main road by the land area of the port," they explained. "And this, while the parking space comfortably offers another 600 spaces for vehicles, which now solves the problem for us."
