Over 2 million foreign nationals and more than 1 million Greek Cypriots who crossed into the occupied territories during the first five months of 2022, according to the front page of Halkin Sesi today.
In the review of the Turkish Cypriot Press, the PIO states that in the publication it is noted that during the period January – May 2022, 2,037,023 foreign nationals, including nationals of Turkey and the Republic of Cyprus, arrived in the occupied by land, sea and air.
According to data from the "Ministry of Tourism", 402,872 travellers entered the occupied territories by air, 33,122 by sea and 1,601,119 by land. Due to the restrictions due to the pandemic in the corresponding five months of 2021, 43,990 travellers had entered the occupied territories by sea and 16,001 by land.
The number of Turkish nationals arriving in the occupied areas by air and sea increased by 1,412%. While in 2021 the number of Turkish nationals entering the occupied territories stood at 22,399, in 2022 this number reached 338,639. Of these, 307,638 entered by air while 31,001 entered by sea. During the same period, the number of third-country nationals entering the occupied territories by air reached 95,144 while 2,121 chose to enter by sea.
According to the same publication, 65% of those who entered the occupied by the barricades are Greek Cypriots. During the five months of January – May 2022, 1,033,953 Greek Cypriots entered the occupied territories, while 567,166 people from 40 different countries entered the occupied territories. The number of Greek Cypriots entering the occupied territories increased by 16,208% and that of third-country nationals by 5,771% compared to 2021.
Among the 1.4 million who entered the roadblocks, 10,188 were British nationals, including Turkish Cypriots. The number of British Cypriot Turkish nationals who entered the occupied territories by air rose to 2,909. According to the data, 653,330 Turkish Cypriots entered the free areas of the Republic. During the same period, 66,091 the number of "tdbk" nationals who entered by air and sea amounted to 66,091.
