The Department of Road Transport, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, announces the following in relation to the renewal of the quarterly and semi-annual registration certificates of vehicles for 2022 which will expire on June 30, 2022:
- The last date for the renewal of these marketing authorisations is Thursday 8.9.2022.
- Those marketing authorisations may be renewed from Friday 1.7.2022 for a period of three or six months.
- Based on the current legislation, these marketing authorisations are renewed until Thursday 8.9.2022 free of charge. After Thursday 8.9.2022, the sum of the amount of €10 and an amount equal to a 10th (10%) of the car tax due corresponding to the remaining amount due for the current year is imposed as a charge on the marketing authorisation.
- For the renewal of the registration certificate, there must be a Certificate of Suitability [MOT] and Insurance for the vehicle.
- The TFT advises everyone to take care of the renewal of the registration certificate of their vehicle in time and not to wait for the last few days, in order to avoid possible overloading of the system that can cause inconvenience.
- It is reminded and emphasized that those who had renewed the registration certificate of their vehicle for the second quarter or the first half of 2022 but do not intend to renew it for the rest of the period of 2022 will have to submit to the Road Transport Department an application for immobilization of the vehicle, by filling in form TOM 12A. This application is made online, through the Department's Online Services. Otherwise, the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the road tax continues to exist as a civil debt due to the Republic.
- Vehicles for which their registration certificate was not renewed for twelve consecutive months (i.e. the last registration certificate expired on 30/6/2021) and have not been declared as immobilized will be deleted from the tom register if the amount due for the twelve months is not paid and their registration certificate is renewed, by Thursday 8.9.2022, for at least a three-month license. This process is also done online.
- In case of destruction of the vehicle, the owners must submit to the TFT an application for the cancellation of the registration of the vehicle (form TOM 98A) accompanied by the "Certificate of Destruction" issued by a licensed waste vehicle treatment plant, in order to be exempted from the obligation to pay road tax from the date of destruction of the vehicle.
- The registration certificates are renewed online, in banks, in the Citizen Service Centres (KEP), in the KEPO and in the district offices of the TFT, throughout the year.
- It is recalled and emphasized that no notifications will be sent to the registered owners for the renewal of marketing authorisations for the third quarter or the second half of 2022.
