BRITISH BASES - NEW OPERATIONAL CRISIS CENTRE IN OPERATION

 Filenews 16 June 2022

With the aim of improving services and better coordination, the British Base Police recently launched the new Operational Crisis Centre at the Akrotiri police station, as the focus for all incoming calls to the emergency services.

According to an announcement by the Bases, the new Operational Crisis Center in Akrotiri is the result of a merger with the corresponding Crisis Center in Dhekelia and "the continuous effort of the police to improve their services to the public and to allow better coordination in all emergency services and the Department of Customs and Immigration".

The Assistant Director of the Dhekelia Police Directorate, Andreas Pitsillidis, said the decision was taken because "we wanted to be able to ensure effective coordination of the routine tasks of the Police and the Department of Customs and Migration, but it was also extremely important to offer rapid support to all emergency services in all BB areas".

"The new Crisis Operational Centre also ensures that there is effective coordination between all emergency services for all critical incidents and security incidents in all BB areas," he added.

It also, he continued, "will also allow us to have a more effective liaison with the emergency services in the Republic of Cyprus and when necessary, in the occupied areas".

However, despite the launch of the new Crisis Operational Centre, Mr. Pitsillidis pointed out that the police operations front will not be affected.

"In both the Eastern and Western areas of BB they will still have a public service desk and will operate between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 3 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday to Friday and between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 4 p.m.-6 p.m. weekends and holidays," he concluded.
