1,141 TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS REPORTED OVER 3 DAYS

A total of 1141 traffic violations were detected and reported during traffic inspections carried out throughout the Pancyprian members of the Police, during the three days that passed, from Friday morning until the morning of today Monday, 17-20 June.

With particular emphasis on offences that are the main factors causing road traffic collisions, during the inspections, 421 complaints were made for speed limit violations, 56 complaints about non-use of a seat belt by drivers and car passengers, 25 complaints about non-use of a protective helmet by motorcyclists, 37 complaints about the use of a mobile phone or other object while driving, as well as 72 complaints about driving under the influence of alcohol and 10 complaints about driving under the influence of drugs.

There were another 18 complaints of persons who were driving vehicles while their driving license had expired, 22 complaints of persons who were driving vehicles without being covered by an insurance certificate, 34 complaints of persons for driving a vehicle without a certificate of suitability – MOT, as well as 12 complaints of persons driving vehicles that have been declared to the Road Transport Department – TOM -  as immobilized, and there were 163 complaints from persons driving vehicles for which there was no valid registration certificate.

At the same time, 78 violations of traffic signals and traffic lights were found and reported, as well as 104 complaints about illegal parking and obstruction of traffic, while the rest of the complaints related to various other traffic violations.

For the purposes of police examinations regarding traffic violations, 23 vehicles were detained, of which four (4) cars and 19 motorcycles.

The Cyprus Police places particular emphasis on the field of road safety, with the aim of reducing road traffic collisions, injuries, and loss of life on the road network. The daily traffic control for the suppression of traffic violations, as well as the constant information of the public by the Police, aim at the cultivation and consolidation of road consciousness.

In order to achieve the legitimate results, however, the contribution of all is necessary, either through the action of the competent bodies and organized groups, or individually on the part of all those who use and move on the road network.

Key factors are compliance with the highway code and compliance with traffic signals, the suitability of vehicles, and the development of driving skills and knowledge on the part of drivers and other road users.

Catalytic are also the factors that are proven to contribute to the cause of road traffic collisions. Compliance with the speed limit, the use of seat belts, child seats, and a protective helmet, the non-use of a mobile phone while driving, and sober driving and avoiding the consumption of alcohol and drugs by those on the road network, undoubtedly can be decisive measures for a significant reduction in road traffic collisions.

In the compliance and compliance with these regulations and measures, all those who move on the road network are once again called upon by the Police, contributing to the work done and the efforts made in the field of road safety.
