Amendments to the legislation concerning the operation of the photo-labelling system, the well-known cameras of the traffic police, will be promoted by the Police through the Ministry of Justice and Public Order.
The modifications concern issues that arose with the operation of the cameras and were found to create functionality problems. As "F" is informed, one of the issues that the Traffic Department will recommend to change, in order to greatly facilitate the process of delivery of extrajudicial documents, concerns the way they are sent. Today, the extrajudicial documents are delivered to the drivers by post by registered mail, a procedure that is considered time-consuming for both the dispatch and the receipt of the extrajudicial.
The Traffic Police recommends that the out-of-court cases be sent electronically, either by sms or by e-mail. Once these data are registered in the system, then the managing company will be able to send the notice of payment out of court through these methods. This is supposed to save time and money. Also, through a special system, the internet or telecommunications network provider will confirm whether someone could receive the out-of-court order, so one will not be able to claim that he did not receive it.
Also, the Traffic Police will request that the company that installed and manages the photo-labelling system be entitled to provide access by the accused driver and videos of his violation, except for the photographs. According to the current legislation, only photographs can be seen by someone, with his code sent for the violation to which he committed. It is estimated that with the video, many problems and many misunderstandings that exist today in relation to when an infringement occurred will be solved.
Meanwhile, in relation to the complaints of citizens who were reported for violating the red in their attempt to turn right from the junction where the fixed cameras are installed (Griva Digenis and Severis), information indicates that some have appealed to the Commissioner for Administration asking for her intervention. The reactions of the drivers are related to the way they are reported, since there is no warning of when the green filter will end in order to prepare to stop. Some do not have time and pass in red, so they have to pay €300 and three penalty points, because they stayed in the middle of the road in a queue, which did not proceed.
