SOME SUCCESS FOR THE POLICE

 Filenews 1 May 2022

A large quantity of narcotics, gold and other objects were found in the possession of a 40-year-old from Jordan who was arrested by the Police. In a locked box on the rooftop of an apartment building, to which he held the keys, 80 grams of crystal, 45 grams of cannabis and 5 grams of cocaine were found. Gold and other valuables were also found as well as sunglasses and other items believed to be stolen goods.

YKAN members had secured a search warrant for an apartment in an apartment building. Approaching the apartment building they noticed an unknown man jumping from the rooftop to an apartment in which an Egyptian woman lives. When the police knocked on the door, the 40-year-old Jordanian opened and led him to the rooftop and with a key in his possession he unlocked a closed box in which he kept the drugs and the gold. In the apartment for which the decree had been secured, YKAN members located a 25-year-old Syrian and a 21-year-old Greek Cypriot. In the possession of the young woman, a small quantity of the chemical drug crystal was found and in the possession of the 25-year-old Syrian, a sum of money of €890 was found, believed to have come from the sale of drugs. All three have been arrested by the Police.

In another case with drugs, a 19 year old traveller, who arrived on a flight from Athens, was suspected of carrying drugs which he had swallowed.  He attempted to pass through the check at Larnaka airport. With his written consent, he was immediately taken to the hospital, where he underwent medical examinations. He expelled from his body 81 packages the size of a walnut, which appeared to contain cocaine.

When questioned, the young man admitted that he was transporting the drugs to Cyprus for a fee, but refused to name the person he was to deliver to. He was taken to court for a detention order.
