ROAD TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT PREPARES TO GO DIGITAL

Cyprus Mail 25 May 2022 - by Sarah Ktisi

The island’s Road Transport Department (TOM) will fully digitalise its services after the transport ministry struck a deal with the Deputy Ministry of Innovation as part of the government’s broader digital transition strategy.

The €7.5 million project, part of the Development and Resilience Plan Cyprus Tomorrow, will kick off on June 1.

TOM’s new information system will replace the existing one and its web-based services, and aims to fully automate all of its procedures.

The new platform is expected to reduce bureaucratic red tape and speed up the time needed to carry out tasks by people working with the department so that all procedures are completed online.

The project also aims to maximise the use of other applications, such as the Ariadne security portal.

In addition, emphasis will be placed on the collection and consolidation of the various information related to TOM, so that it can be provided to stakeholders in a simple format.

The new system is expected to be operational in the second half of 2025.

“The road transport department is now entering a new era, harnessing the potential of modern technologies and digitisation. Through the digital processing of procedures and services offered by the department, the service to citizens will be significantly improved and, at the same time, the productivity and efficiency of the department will be enhanced,” Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos said.
