The reduction of the charge for Public Utilities Obligations (Y.D.O.) in EAC's bills for specific categories of vulnerable customers was approved by the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA), following a relevant study and recommendation of the Electricity Authority.
According to an announcement by EAC, the revised M.D.O. charge, from €0.00044/kWh to €0.00035/kWh, will be applied to the bills of consumers with monthly bills from the end of June 2022, and of consumers with bi-monthly bills whose readings will begin to be recorded from June 1, 2022.
The charge for Y.D.O. is applied on the basis of the relevant Legislation, according to which the competent Minister of Energy exercised the right granted to him, after consultation with CERA, to impose on electricity suppliers a reduced charge price per unit consumed, to specific categories of vulnerable consumers.
The persons who are entitled to apply to the EAC in order to be included in the special tariff with code 08, which is approximately 20% cheaper than the usual domestic tariff, are those who belong to categories of vulnerable customers and specifically families with many children and five-member families with 3 dependent children and above based on defined income criteria (annual mixed family income up to €51,258. This is increased by €5,126 for each additional child beyond the four).
It also concerns recipients of Public Assistance, beneficiaries of the UGS, recipients of the Severe Motor Disability Allowance, recipients of the Care Allowance for Quadriplegic People and recipients of the Care Allowance for Paraplegic People, as well as people suffering from multiple sclerosis and are registered members of the Pancyprian Association of Multiple Sclerosis, as well as dialysis kidney patients who receive a Movement Allowance.
